McNair Scholars' Summer Research Training Program

The McNair Summer Research Training Program provides an intensive research opportunity to a select number of students drawn from both the University of Chicago undergraduate body as well as from other colleges and universities. McNair Summer Research Scholars spend nine weeks in the summer (late June to mid August) at the University of Chicago where they conduct research under the guidance of a faculty mentor in a field that grants the doctorate of philosophy. Students also complete a required course entitled, Writing for Research: Constructing Problems which teaches McNair fellows how to organize a research project; frame questions and problems; prepare a critical annotated bibliography; write abstracts; and design and write an extended research proposal. This course supports students throughout the 9 weeks in the program to organize and write up their research.
